Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)
All electrical installations can deteriorate over time with and age and use. Periodic fixed wire testing also known as an EICR (formerly known as a PIR) is essential to ensure the continued safety of users and the safety and serviceability of fixed equipment.
‘Electrical Installation Condition Report' (EICR) is a procedure for testing the electrical systems, circuits and services carrying electricity around a property.
The (EICR) will highlight
* If any of the existing circuits or equipment is overloaded
or may be faulty
* Find any potential shock or fire risks within the electrical
installation
* Identify potential defective diy work that may have been
carried out in the past
* Identify a lack of Bonding or Earthing
Further tests are carried out on the wiring and the fixed electrical equipment to ensure it is safe to use. A detailed schedule of circuits at the consumer unit is also provided to ensure each circuit is clearly marked.
At the end of each inspection a detailed report is provided stating the condition of the existing installation. It includes recommendations that may be required to ensure the installation is brought up to standard or that may help improve the current installation.
EICR testing may be recommended every 1, 3, 5 or 10 years depending upon age, usage, condition of the premise and the condition of the existing installation.
